Forthcoming Meets and Events

Listed below are the official PDMHS mining history meets and underground events. Some trips are subject to certain access or technical restrictions, others are weather dependent. You are advised to check with the meet organiser prior to attending as numbers are limited on some trips and meets may be subject to last minute changes.

Weekend Trip
Lake District Mines
Saturday 20th & Sunday 22nd March 2010
Description: A joint "away" weekend with Masson Caving Group, hosted by CATMHS (Cumbria Amenity Trust Mining History Society).
Possibilities for underground trips include Goldscope Mine, Borrowdale Graphite Mine and Wythburn Mine. Accommodation will be in or around Keswick.

Heritage Walk
Cromford to Matlock Bath and back
Tuesday 13th April 2010
Description: A chance to walk from Cromford to Matlock Bath, viewing sites on the way including Masson Mill, the site of the former Glenorchy Chapel and a former public house. These latter two buildings were demolished in the 1960s as part of the A6 road widening scheme.
Optional food and drink at The Greyhound, Cromford, afterwards. Guests and non-members welcome - donation to Society funds appreciated.

Heritage Walk
Bonsall
Tuesday 13th April 2010
Description: Take a trip back in time by taking a walk around the village of Bonsall. We will look at the trades and industries of yesteryear, including the frame work knitters shops in the dale and by the market cross.
Optional food and drink at the Kings Head, Bonsall, afterwards.

Meet: Bonsall Lorry Park. (From the A5012 turn uphill at the Pig of Lead guest house, continue uphill, then at the top of the Clatterway, just after a house called the Cascades, turn right into the lorry park.)

Evening Underground Meet
Goodluck Mine, Via Gellia
Tuesday 11th May 2010
Description: Members of the mine preservation team will be on hand to guide the party through the mine workings, giving an opportunity to see both the superb herring bone stempling and the work the group has undertaken. There will also be a tour of the surface remains.
Optional food and drink afterwards at the Kings Head, Bonsall.
