Events diary:

The calender below shows forthcoming society events and other events related to mining history that may be of interest.  You can click on individual days/events on the calender to retrieve further details.  If you are the organiser or promoter of a (not-for-profit) event that you would like listed here, please send details through to the webmaster - details are on the contact us page.

Some events, such as underground meets or surface walks, can be liable to last-minute changes due to weather conditions, or the ability to gain permission for access/parking/etc.  Where possible we try to keep this diary up-to-date, so it is worth double-checking meet details here prior to setting out!

Heritage Open Day - Magpie Mine, Sheldon

  • Dates: 11 – 11 Sep, 2016
A free event for National Heritage Open Day. There will be guided tours around this "the best preserved example of a nineteenth century lead mine in Britain" - including a look down the 728ft deep shaft!

We will be offering free tours of the surface remains and some of the buildings (lasting about an hour), with the first starting at 11:00am and the last at 4:00pm. The tours are free, although donations to Society funds will be gratefully received. Tea and coffee will also be available, and there will also be hands on demonstrations of the use of traditional lime mortar. More details (including directions) about the day can be found here.

PDMHS members can make a full day of it with an underground trip into Holmebank chert mine at Bakewell, starting at 10.00am. Further details can be seen here.
