Events diary:

The calender below shows forthcoming society events and other events related to mining history that may be of interest.  You can click on individual days/events on the calender to retrieve further details.  If you are the organiser or promoter of a (not-for-profit) event that you would like listed here, please send details through to the webmaster - details are on the contact us page.

Some events, such as underground meets or surface walks, can be liable to last-minute changes due to weather conditions, or the ability to gain permission for access/parking/etc.  Where possible we try to keep this diary up-to-date, so it is worth double-checking meet details here prior to setting out!

Leaders: Phil Wolstenholme and David Wormsley.

A 4 1/2mile walk starting at 10.00am from the Pay & Display Car Park in Castleton (next to the Tourist Information Centre). We will first visit the tail of Odin Sough, then head up to the Odin Mine itself to view the entrances and the crushing circle. From there, we will climb up Odin Gorge to the Blue John Cavern, then to Mam Tor to see Mam Engine Shaft. Descending towards the head of Winnats Pass, we will visit Windy Knoll Cave and the nearby quarry, before crossing to Rowter Farm and New Rake, then down past Hurdlow Barn (pictured below) to the top of Cave Dale, and then down the dale back to Castleton.

This walk is fairly strenuous due to the roughly 700ft of ascent from Castleton to the summit of Mam Tor, and it is expected to last 5 to 6 hours - so be sure to bring a pack lunch and a drink. No pre-booking required - everyone welcome.
