The Alderley Edge Copper Mines comprise an extensive series of workings with a number of
entrances, notable for the beautifully-coloured and often impressive flowstone cascades that
result from the presence of copper, cobalt iron and other metals in the water that forms them.
Access to the mines is controlled by the DCC (Derbyshire Caving Club) and consequently
both the formations and underground artefacts are in general very well preserved.
The photographs here were taken on a weekend PDMHS meet and thanks are due to the Derbyshire Caving Club members
who acted as leaders for the trips into Engine Vein, arguably the most colourfully-decorated
of the Alderley Edge copper mines.
